Our Story

Dhareena Suddul, founder of Vanill'Art

The Founder

I founded Vanill'Art with the desire to reveal an exceptional Mauritian terroir. Every decision, from cultivation to harvest, reflects the same standard: respecting time, valuing craftsmanship, and sharing a vanilla that carries the identity of the Hauts de Mont-Blanc.

The family vanilla farm

Our vanilla farm is, first and foremost, a family story.

My father, Dharam, is passionate about nature and has a natural gift for growing things. Coming from a family of farmers, descendants of indentured labourers from India, I am the 5th generation to work the land. Over the years, my father taught me the art of growing vanilla and passed on his passion for it.

Today the vanilla farm is an integral part of our lives, and our daily routine is built around it. Demanding by nature, the queen of spices requires constant care. We give it our full attention and make sure our vanilla grows in the best possible conditions. Our organic farm is a haven of peace where our exceptional vanilla grows away from prying eyes.

We invite you to come and meet us, to discover the wonderful story that connects us to this sublime vanilla of Mauritius.

— Dhareena, vanilla grower

We grow Vanilla Planifolia, one of the best-known vanilla varieties.

Vanilla cultivation is demanding: seven years pass between planting the cutting and the first pod, four to five of them before the first flower. Our organic farm watches over every stage with the same rigour.

There are 3 steps to obtaining an excellent black vanilla pod:

  • Flowering — pollination
  • Harvesting
  • Drying

Every step is crucial and must be carried out with a goldsmith's precision.

Passing on our craft

This year, we welcomed two agronomy engineering interns, who came to discover our craft and share their passion for vanilla. A way for the House to pass on its standards to the generations who will grow vanilla tomorrow.
